To get the most out of your consult you want to come prepared with a list after doing some research on the procedure you think you need.

1. Ask for board certification, in Plastic Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery, Dermatological Plastic Surgery. Certification in Family Practice, Ob/Gyn, General Surgery might stimulate more research.
2. Ask about hospital affiliations, and does the surgeon have hospital privileges to do the procedure you want?
3. How long has he/ she been doing the procedure you want? Remember, brand new technologies will effect these answers.
4. Facilitate the physical exam by wearing clothes that permit access to what needs to be seen. Bring a friend or spouse to make you more comfortable and remember more.
5. Be prepared to be specific about your expectations, down time available, and how much help you will need after the procedure.
